Two hundred and two patients under treatment for COVID-19 in Kerala have tested negative on July 2 even as 160 new cases were confirmed in the State. Minister of Health K K Shailaja has informed that this is the highest number of recoveries being reported on a single day.
Fifty-seven patients from Malappuram district, 53 in Palakkad district, 23 from Kasargod district, 15 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 14 from Kannur district, 13 in Idukki district, 11 from Ernakulam district, eight in Thrissur district, seven from Alappuzha district and one in Kottayam district are those who were cured of Coronavirus. So far, 2,638 patients have been discharged from hospital and 2,088 patients are still undergoing treatment for the disease.
Of the new active cases diagnosed, 106 are those who arrived from overseas and 40 who came back from other states. 14 are cases of local transmission.
The district-wise details of new cases are 27 in Pathanamthitta district, 24 from Malappuram district, 18 in Palakkad district, 16 from Alappuzha district, nine in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Kannur districts, eight from Idukki district, seven in Kozhikode district, five from Kasargod district and one in Wayanad district.
Among patients from abroad, 27 arrived from the UAE, 21 each from Kuwaitand Oman, 16 from Qatar, 15 from Saudi Arabia, four from Bahrain, one from Moldova, and one from Ivory Coast. Among the states, Delhi accounted for 13 cases, Maharashtra-10, Tamil Nadu-8, Karnataka-6, Punjab-1, Gujarat-1 and West Bengal-1. Five persons from Alappuzha district, four each in Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam districts, and one from Kottayam district are those who got infected through contact.
There are at present 1,78,099 people under quarantine in different districts in the state. 1,75,111 are under surveillance at their homes or institutional quarantine centres and 2,988 are in isolation at hospitals. 18,790 persons were excluded from quarantine. 403 people were admitted to the hospital today.
The number of tests being conducted every day has increased again. During the last 24 hours, 7,589 samples were tested. A total of 2,46,799 samples have been sent for testing and of these, the results of 4,722 samples are yet to come. As part of Sentinel Surveillance, 52,316 samples were collected from priority groups, such as health workers, migrant labourers and those with high social contacts and 50,002 samples were negative.
