5,215 infected with COVID-19 on Dec. 31 in Kerala; 5,376 cured

COVID-19 was confirmed for 5,215 people in Kerala on the last day of 2020. The district-wise break-up of the number of affected are Ernakulam 574, Kozhikode 520, Thrissur 515, Pathanamthitta 512, Kottayam 481, Alappuzha 425, Thiruvananthapuram 420, Kollam 402, Malappuram 388, Kannur 302, Palakkad 225, Idukki 190, Wayanad 165 and Kasaragod 96 districts were recently diagnosed with the disease.
COVID-19 has so far been confirmed by 32 people from the UK. Their samples have been sent to NIV Pune for further testing.
During the last 24 hours, 58,283 samples were tested. The test positivity rate is 8.95. Routine A total of 79,11,934 samples have so far been sent for testing, including LAMP and antigen testing.

It has been confirmed that 30 deaths in the last few days have been caused by COVID-19. This brings the total death toll to 3,072. Further deaths will be confirmed after NIV testing in Alappuzha.

A total of 122 of those diagnosed with the disease are from outside the State and 4,621 people were infected through contact. Contact source for 405 is not clear. Ernakulam 528, Kozhikode 474, Thrissur 501, Pathanamthitta 423, Kottayam 459, Alappuzha 412, Thiruvananthapuram 296, Kollam 398, Malappuram 359, Kannur 245, Palakkad 111, Idukki 177, Wayanad 154 and Kasaragod 84 were affected by the disease.

The disease affected 67 health workers. Pathanamthitta 18, Kannur 12, Thrissur 8, Thiruvananthapuram 7, Ernakulam 6, Malappuram 4, Kozhikode 3, Kollam, Palakkad, Wayanad, Kasaragod 2 each and Idukki 1 were affected by the disease.

The test results of 5,376 people who were diagnosed and treated were negative. Thiruvananthapuram 333, Kollam 342, Pathanamthitta 421, Alappuzha 516, Kottayam 384, Idukki 205, Ernakulam 513, Thrissur 590, Palakkad 229, Malappuram 547, Kozhikode 714, Wayanad 298, Kannur 222 and Kasaragod 62 were negative. With this, 65,202 people have been diagnosed with the disease and are still undergoing treatment. 6,92,480 have so far been freed from COVID.

There are currently 2,46,285 people under surveillance in various districts of the State. Of these, 2,34,053 are under home / institutional quarantine and 12,232 in hospitals. A total of 1375 people were admitted to hospitals.
There is one new hot spot. The new hot spot is Mulakuzha (Cantonment Zone Sub Ward 1) in Alappuzha district. Four areas were excluded from the hotspot. With this, there are currently a total of 458 hotspots in the State.
