Kerala reports 4,650 new COVID-19 cases on Feb 20

Kerala reported 4,650 new Covid cases, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told reporters in a press meet on February 20.

5,841 recoveries were also reported along with 13 deaths. The total number of deaths in the state touched 4,074.

The test positivity rate was recorded at 7.05 percent.

Twenty-six of the health workers also tested positive for the infection.

65,968 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Kozhikode – 602, Ernakulam – 564, Malappuram – 529, Thrissur – 503, Kollam – 444, Alappuzha – 382, Thiruvananthapuram – 328, Pathanamthitta – 317, Kottayam – 267, Palakkad – 193, Kannur – 176, Wayanad – 143, Kasaragod – 124 and Idukki – 78.

Meanwhile, none of the UK returnees tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. So far, 86 UK returnees tested positive for the virus infection. 72 of them have recovered. 10 among the patients were identified with the mutant virus strain.

So far, 1,09,72,895 samples including routine sample, sentinel sample, CBNAAT, Trunat, POCT, PCR, RTLAMP, antigen were sent for the tests.

Seventy-six of the coronavirus patients came from outside the state. 4,253 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 295 persons remains unidentified.

The district-wise statistics of recoveries is: Thiruvananthapuram – 459, Kollam – 780, Pathanamthitta – 550, Alappuzha – 361, Kottayam – 539, Idukki – 263, Ernakulam – 658, Thrissur – 404, Palakkad – 164, Malappuram – 596, Kozhikode – 659, Wayanad – 151, Kannur – 217and Kasaragod – 40. There are 58,606 active Covid-19 cases in the state.

9,67,630 people have recovered from the disease. 2,47,780 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 2,38,791 are under home/institutional quarantine and 8,989 people are in hospitals. 949 people were taken to hospitals on February 20.

Three new areas were added to the hotspot list on February 20. Eight places were removed from the list. There are currently 366 hotspots in the state.
